The First Week of College: Study, Party, or … Beach?
Written by taylor on September 8, 2009
We ran into Pamela Anderson, John Cusack, and Mel Gibson. Coming from Nashville, seeing country music stars wasn’t a big deal — but seeing big-name television and movie stars was more than I could handle.
Sleepless nights, studying all day, making new friends, staying in touch with old ones, calling home, having a terrible sunburn …
The first week of college in Malibu, California has arrived.
Orientation came and went — my parents now back in Nashville — and I have to decide how to prioritize my time between studying and going to the beach.
This first week has been extremely overwhelming. I made it to all my classes (on time) and have started to adapt my schedule to my new life as a college first year.
Last Friday, I went to the Malibu Fair with a few new friends. While there, we managed to run into Pamela Anderson, John Cusack, and Mel Gibson. Coming from Nashville, seeing country music stars wasn’t a big deal — but seeing big-name television and movie stars was more than I could handle. One of the guys I was with just looked at me and said, “Welcome to Malibu.”
And my arthritis? It may be too soon to tell if I will feel better out here, but I have to admit that — in all the excitement — I missed a couple doses of my meds … and I’m still feeling great! However, to be safe, I’ve gotten myself back on schedule.
The campus has pretty much died over Labor Day weekend, with people heading out to different locations. A friend and I went to Manhattan Beach for a couple days after celebrating my 19th birthday Saturday.
I must say I’m having the time of my life. Alas, I must leave you now … and get back to studying for my first economics quiz.
