Well in the last couple of weeks I have survived the Avian Flu, snuck by with a small case of Anthrax and most importantly – and most realistically – dealt with a mean case of bronchitis. It wasn’t pretty – sounding or looking – but I’m glad to be better now.

Every time I get sick I find myself saying the same thing to my mother: “it’s not the bronchitis (or Avian Flu)(or Anthrax) that bothers me…it’s not being able to take my arthritis medicine that does.” Boy do I feel it after a week…and am reminded at how lucky I am to have medicine as one of my weapons – because without it – life sucks. Seriously sucks.

Now that I’m back in the swing of things I’d like to go back to the gym and get my life back in order. I thought about taking 13 pills to catch up but I didn’t want to add “bleeding peptic ulcer” to the list of problems – real or fake. So slowly but surely I’m feeling better and better.

Therapy music is an essential part to any therapy session. Whether it be medication therapy, doctor therapy, or just going through your day, by having a song that is inspirational to you, and using the song as a tool to help your therapy, you’re already better off. These things have come into focus lately. Because never did I realize how much I could be helped by listening to a healing song. Sometimes these songs are about someone else’s problems – which ultimately makes you feel better about your lesser problem.

This week has been rough – for some reason pain in my back is making my hand tingle – but music helped just a tiny bit to make me feel better. I’d like to think it spending a few hours on the couch on Sunday, relaxing, listening to my new favorite music (and some of my own) which made me able to feel a little bit better. I could have gone for a massage or spent time in a hot tub or sauna to help my aching joints, but instead I found my healing, soothing LPs.

And the best part is we all have a different taste in music. Thank goodness nobody else likes Neil Diamond the way I do – all of his records are picked over and remain in a thrift shop waiting to be bought. For a dollar.

So today my three records – and three bucks – did enough to make my afternoon a little more bearable.
