Seth returns from the EULAR in London

Last week I attended the EULAR (European League Against Rheumatism) conference in London. It was ridiculous (in a good way). More than 6,000 doctors from all around the world converged for a week to talk about what they know – and what they don’t – about arthritis. Gout, Lupus, and RA were the hot topics. I got to meet doctors from Egypt, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, Israel and other countries, who shared their vision of quality care, and their challenges with delivering it.

To borrow a famous quotation, “the U.S. has the worst healthcare system…except for all of the others”. While I’m sometimes down about the access-to-care issues that we have (and how much it stinks to get coverage in our country), last week I was reminded that we still have the brightest doctors, our care is envied the world over, and I’m lucky to be under the care of a U.S. doctor…as an American.

Especially – and I don’t say this lightly – given how much better our food is than the Brits. If I had a dog, I wouldn’t feed it British food. Yea, I said it. They have warm beer, how much of an authority could they be in the culinary world?
