An Online Video Series On Better Pain Management
Looking to better manage chronic pain? (Aren't we all?) A three-part educational series on the subject is now available as a Webcast.
The series -- featuring leading health specialists and Olympic Games gold medalist and chronic pain sufferer, Nikki Stone -- addresses the psychological effects of chronic pain and the stress it may cause on everyday relationships.
Topics include exercise, weight control and relationships -- including intimacy.
These topics were underscored in a recent online survey of Americans 18 years or older who suffer from chronic pain:
- 86 percent of respondents stated that healthy changes to their diet helped to manage their chronic pain.
- Nearly half of chronic pain sufferers (approximately 46 percent) agreed controlling their weight helped them to manage their chronic pain.
- Approximately 68 percent agreed that their chronic pain causes stress in their families.
- The survey found that 60 percent of all respondents stated that their chronic pain has had a negative effect on their relationship with their spouse or partner, whereas 75 percent of these respondents ages 31-40 reported the same.
- Nearly three-quarters (71 percent) of those surveyed who are married reported that they agree that their chronic pain caused a lack of intimacy.
