Talk to him

Dear Ms. Meniscus,

I have this huge crush on a boy. How do I get him to notice me?

- Kendra in Kentucky

Dear Kendra,

I suggest the simplest approach: talk to him. Find common interests you share and strike up a conversation. Some of your best relationships will develop around your passions.

And if he ignores you, at least you won't regret not having tried.

Dear Ms. Meniscus,

I really like my boyfriend, but he has some problems kissing. For example, he starts with his mouth wide open and then keeps it open.

What can I do to reform him?

- Desperate in LA

Dear Desperate,

You need to talk to him about this. I guarantee he has no idea his "technique" is causing you angst. Be gentle -- harsh criticism could hurt his feelings (especially if you've let a long time pass without speaking up before).

Explain it as an opportunity to enhance this part of your relationship. And be prepared: he could have "opportunities" for you he's been hiding as well.

Dear Ms. Meniscus,

My new boyfriend's ex-girlfriend of three years will do anything to get him back -- even take our closest friends away.

What can I do to stop her?

- Amanda in Allegheny

Dear Amanda,

Remember that three years is a substantial amount of time -- severing connections and feelings quickly from both parties may prove impossible. Expecting your boyfriend to shun this young woman is probably not reasonable.

Regardless, it sounds like you've got quite the trouble-maker on your hands. If you haven't already, share your concerns with your boyfriend. Some relationships can easily deflect external manipulations -- others cannot.

Communication between the two of you is crucial.
