Donna Sell Barton, a mother, grandmother and graphic designer who grew up in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in April of 2012. Someone who tries to be happy no matter her circumstances, she soon posted a silly poem ranting about her new disease on an RA support group page. Donna soon started her own Facebook page of poems, GigglesOverTearsWithRA, where she tries to post a new poem and graphic every day. In July of 2013, her poems were brought together in an ebook collection Funny How it Hurts, with illustrations by Kathleen Acker, who also battles RA. CreakyJoints is honored that Donna is also our Poet-in-Residence.
Funny How It Hurts is Donna Sell Barton’s humorous collection of poems to create awareness for Rheumatoid Arthritis. With powerful and inspiring words, humor and whimsical drawings by Kathleen Acker, this book is for with anyone who deals with chronic pain. The author's humorous renditions of day to day living with RA are an inspiration for all ages.
