TV Ads Really Annoy Me!
Up to Traditional Meds and Side Effects
Hi All:
I'm new here, so pardon the venting:
I just can't take these drug ads anymore. They're getting more and more annoying! I get the feeling they're trying to sell me something and it's kind of scary. Shouldn't our doctor be the one who tells us about these medicines, not the commercials between the 6 o'clock news?
Does anyone else feel that way?
I like sites like this because it's not commercialized. I know that there is support from drug companies but they do it politely -- and I appreciate their support of this kind of thing. My medicine is complicated, goes back a long way and isn't the equiv. of a "Sham-Wow".
Sorry for venting. Nice to read all of your postings! It's nice to be here.
Hi Sammy, welcome to the creaky boards! Yours is a pet peeve we've all vented about at one time or another.
My hot button are the commercials for OTC products that imply you'll be dancing all night if you just pop a pill. They really trivialize what we suffer and makes it harder for non-creakies to understand. :/
Hi Sammy, welcome!
I haaaaaaaaaate those commercials- they're completely ridiculous. I was really mad about one that was on recently (for Tylenol, of all ineffective things) that basically showed really disfigured joints, then a picture of tylenol, then perfect perfect bodies. Like Tylenol is going to do that! I almost wrote them a letter I was so annoyed. So, feel free to vent, you are among friends!
kate
ps. for what its worth, I would LOVE a med that was the equivalent of a "Sham-Wow!"... haha
Oh, and my personal favorite...the one that goes, "I knew rheumatoid arthritis was painful, but I didn't know it could destroy my joints."
My family has gotten used to me screaming "THEN YOUR DOCTOR IS INCOMPETENT!!!" every time that one comes on.
Gah!!
I also despise those terrible OTC anti-inflammatory ads! People actually think that's how I control my RA. "Oh, so you have to take Aleve all the time, huh?" Yeah...
Gah!!
Sammy, welcome!
yes the OTC ads annoy the heck out of me, especially the Tylenol one that Kate mentioned.
What also annoys me is the ads for Enbrel and Humira where it IMPLYS after one shot and WAM!! It's all better... yes they mention the use with MTX. Though it is amazing that I haven't been able to go back to a lot of the physcial activities with the different meds and a lot of us never will. They do NOT mention with clarity that it is only to SLOW the progression of these diseases and is not a CURE. Also that sometimes it takes MONTHS to show any improvement, sometimes it can take several years to find the right Cocktail that works for you at that moment in time, until it doesn't any longer.
Okay I am with Carolan now: GAH GAH GAH!!!
Back to feeling miserable with this wonderful flare that appeared today....Later folks.

haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa hahahahahha. Carolan, you're the best.
Kate, I'm right there with you on the "but I didn't know.." ads! However, your response is much kinder than mine is!
[[your response is much kinder than mine is]]
[grin] Yeah, "MORON!!!!" is much more efficient to scream than "THEN YOUR DOCTOR IS INCOMPETENT!!!"
But it makes you sound like you have Tourette's.
(Apologies in advance to anyone here who might be struggling with Tourette's!)

Hello! My name is Kelly. I am new to the Creaky boards and also to arthritis. I was in an accident about a year and a half ago that triggered AS and I have been so broken by this terrible thing. I need help...and I am hoping to find it here. Anyway....speaking of commercials...the commercial that really makes me angry is the one that talks about..."I am not just giving up..." like people who are having difficulty with arthritic conditions that don't take their medicine are giving up on life....that's crazy. Although I feel like my life is at a stand still right now
I am hoping to learn allot from this place....Have a great night!
Kelly
Hi Kelly! Welcome! Dont' worry about the reply, you'll get the hang of it quickly.
No worries about venting here, either. This is a safe place to do just that, and you'll always find someone (many someones) who "get it".
[[My medicine ...isn't the equiv. of a "Sham-Wow".]] OMG that is priceless! Love it!
