the actual worst commercial ever
Up to Traditional Meds and Side Effects
Ok, I know we've all complained about commercials on here where people are dancing around after taking advil. BUT, have you seen the new tylenol arthritis commercial? Its borderline offensive, or false advertising or something
They start off with all these images of arthritic bodies- twisted fingers, knees with huge scars, etc, etc. Then they show a bunch of pictures of tylenol. THEN they show perfect looking bodies! like, literally non-twisted fingers, and perfect knees, and really athletic dancer-like bodes. I'll say one thing, there is no WAY tylenol is going to do anything like that! I think its kind of awful, if you weren't informed, you might actually believe that tylenol would reverse joint damage. I'm kind of thinking about writing them letter or something...
I haven't seen it yet but they all tick me off. Pop this and you'll feel fantastic. Drink this wacky fruit juice and you'll be cured. Loose weight and it will go away (but if I could loose a few pounds I might feel a little better). And of course the reverse - don't and order your wheelchair now so you can sit and watch the world pass by. Both taken in their extremes are so wrong and I hate how they play on our vulnerabilities. I think it should be outlawed.
I'd send them a letter if nothing else it implies something that their med could never do.

....Lousy marketing jerks... That, and the Enbrel commercial that says, "I didn't know that my RA was actually destroying my joints..." All I can say, along with my entire living room (minus the dog) is REALLY?!?
I know what you mean, Renee. Every time I see that commercial I scream at the TV "Then your &^&&*%$ doctor is incompetent - or you're an idiot!"
You gotta love these commercials, well at least we know one thing: The Marketing folks aren't looking for Jobs!!!
It's like being a weather person, you don't have to be right just say what you think versus the real truth. they wouldn't sell products if they say it will only ease your pain.
THough folks like us that have the disease know that it will never cure it, it won't get us out of the wheelchairs and reverse any of the damage (though some claim they would).
It is discouraging when folks we know believe these commercials and still consider us hypercondriacs. (spelling).
Here's to wishing maybe someday the marketing folks would see the light. Then again I worked in the Pharmacitcal industry for 10 years and believe me it has only gotten worse not any better on the advertising.
I'll drink my OJ to that, Tess!
Oh, and to add to the list of insensitive jerks who I'd like to beat with a cane* or run over with a scooter: the genius who decided to put a tiny screw cap on Coca Cola products here in the US- they're tiny and have no traction! What's up with that?!
*After my first knee scope, my brother is terrified of me wielding a cane- I'm like a ninja with it!
lets not start the topic of safety caps! i go through elbow surgery this week and the pharmacist gave my husband a hard time about to allowing child proof caps for a person with the use of one hand go figure! guess i need a permanent male nurse! to open everything for me all day.
mr. pharmacist dont get in the way of me and my pain meds when i still cant take my ra meds because of the open wound!
the one armed bandit: tess
I've been laid up with a bad flare the last couple weeks, and its been amazing me how many commercials make me want to throw my tea/sandwich/banana/water at the TV.....its appalling! No wonder no one my age wants to believe I have a problem when all they see is commercials insisting merely 2 aleve, 2 tylenol arthritis, or advil will significantly improve our lives....
britt,
there isnt any age group on that impression, folks that have known me for years still can't understand why the alieve doesnt work...
Tessa....Now I feel bad for assuming, but I guess that makes sense because my grandparents and such still think I have "the family bad back".....so it never gets any better with age......great....
Britt,
Do not feel bad for assuming. For us it might not get better with age, though with the REAL meds out there or the right combination of them we might. THough just 2 tylenol isn't going to fix it, we have a society that includes our family members at times of ignorance when it comes to AutoImmune diseases. These are DISEASES not just a sprain or a fracture that will heal and go away. I hate to say this but my mom's family is all from an older generation and they really do not understand and do not want to understand. Sometimes they get shell shocked when they have to see me at age 46 walking with a cane or a walker, while my arm is in a splint. Yet they still don't get it and tell me to take more Alieve... oh well, maybe some day they will understand and I will just smile and say yea sure, whatever and walk away (or hobble in my case most of the time).
My support structure, my kids and husband know they have sat down and understand it, they watch and learn about the meds I have to take. So this is what counts.
Though I wish they would make the commericals a bit more sensitive to the real suffer's of these diseases. THough it doesn't sell their product.
Hope you are doing well.
