weekly Humira question
Hi everyone!
My rheumy put me on weekly injections and I'm wondering if I should continue methotrexate, too? Does anyone know? One of his nurses said most people don't do both if the injections are weekly.
Thanks,
Carol
Hi there- I do weekly injections of both- I would ask the doctor not the nurse, it isn't that there is an interaction between them or anything, the decision is totally made based on what dose you need to control your RA, which he probably knows most about. For instance, my RA is pretty severe so I'm on the max dose of mtx (1ml/week) and weekly humira, because thats what I need.
good luck!!
Katie
Hi Carol,
Definitely ask your rheumy. (Don't go by what one of the nurses thinks.) I am on MTX and Enbrel, and my understanding is the MTX helps the Enbrel work. Enbrel has been my "miracle drug", so much so that I tried to taper and eliminate the MTX, but it seems that it is the combination that works. Since Humira is in the somewhat similar to Enbrel, I would think that it also works best in combination with the MTX...but don't listen to me...ask your rheumy
Carol
I agree with the others, just because you are now on Humira doesn't mean the doctor wants you to stop the MTX no matter what the nurse believes.
I am being moved to Orencia and per my Doc he said if the Orencia starts to work where the Enbrel left off we can DISCUSS stopping the MTX but not until then. So I am sure as my doc stated with me during our discussions if we would go to Humria or Orencia MTX was never questioned if I would stop it until after the Biological is working. Some will want to keep you on at least one DMARD along with the biological so you mightnot have to take the MTX and they might put you on Plaquenil.
It is all the matter of how your body will adapt. Only time will tell... you need to put trust and faith in your doc and your self to know what is best for you...
Good luck
