Some doctors still in the Dark.....
Up to Traditional Meds and Side Effects
So my fiance Luke (32yrs old) went to his doctor yesterday because he has been having really bad hip pain ( he has a bad back and hip) We were comparing pain ( You know you have arthritis if you are comparing pain with another LOL) and its the same pain/swelling I've always gotten in my hips and have had to get cort. shots in. However his doctor said..........Its not arthritis your too young for that ( said this without even doing a single x ray) .... when Luke told me his doctor said this I couldnt believe it! I told him he should have said hes fiance is 25 and has had it since she was 5 years old! So when get married in 4months and I told him once he gets on my insurance ( as mine is better then his) then he should go to my rheumy for a consult or something.
It reminded me when about 3years ago I went to the ER because I was in soooo much back from a flare up I literally wanted to die. I told the ER doctor that I had arthritis and thats what it was from. He looked at me and said 'your too young you dont have that your pregnant' ( again without doing a single test) and I told him impossiable because I was waiting til marriage to do that. So only then did he believe that I had arthritis and was not pregnant and that I was having a flare up in my back.
So in this day in age why is it that there are still a few skeptical doctors out there that still believe Arthritis is the 'old persons disease'. GRRR it just makes me sooo mad! lol
Joining you in a great big ol' GRRRR!!!
I'd just look at the moron and ask him/her "And your prestigious degree is from...? You know, just to make sure my kids don't go there."
I hope your guy feels better soon!
Emmie,
I was diag. at the age of 2. The first doctor that my mom took me to told her I was faking it and that I should be an actress. A family doc diagnosed me within one day with a simple blood test. It's disgusting.
The pharmaceutical companies are even more evil..........
For a while during grad school, I would have to go to the student health center every 6 months, see whatever random person they put in front of me, and get a new set of referrals to my rheumy. More than once, I had some doctor do something like feel my joints and go "your joints aren't hot, you don't have RA". And I'd be like.. right, so I go to this doctor, and he prescribes me medication, and it treats my RA, which is the exact reason you can't find those symptoms. now, would you mind sending me back to him so he can do that all over again?
ugh! it was sooo infuriating!
Doctors should knowthat diagnosing RA is not as simple as just touching a joint or running 1 blood test and or 1 xray.
Years ago when they didnt have as many blood tests as they do now they couldnt even diagnosis RA unless you were in the middle of a Flare when they drew the blood and then it was still a 50/50 chance the RA Factor was positive!!!
AutoImmune diseease are so tough to diagnosis and this is why WE as the patient must manage our doctors.
I went to a new GYN on Friday and she was shocked at the list of Med's I was on and she also agreed that there are many doctors that just don't think or understand these disease.
BTW she wants be to be tested for Lynch Syndrom it is a test to determine if you have the Cancer marker for Pancreatic, Colon, ovarian and/or Utern cancers. Get this Insurance companies don't cover it unless you were already diagnosed with one of the cancers.
My opinion on this is I DON"T WANNA know as a RA patient I will just deal with it if and when it happens i don't want to know anymore!!! I am already dealing with when I won't be able to walk and or use my hands lately...
Have a good one folks. been typing too long tonight gotta give the hands a rest... Which is why I haven't been on much by the time i get done work I can''t hold a fork let alone type.
Miss you all... Tess
