Sorry I've been MIA

Posted by Carolan Ivey at May 18. 2009

My Dad has been hospitalized and is being moved to hospice sometime today. He is in the end stages of heart disease, COPD and emphysema. We're grateful for the last few days which gave me, my sister, mom and him a chance to say everything that needed to be said, laugh, cry, reminisce, etc. A rare and precious gift.

Anyway, that's where I've been and where I'll be for a few days yet. :)

Love to all,

C.

Oh, Carolan!! (((((hugs!!)))))

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm glad you've had this time though- my grandfather recently passed away and was on hospice, it might sound strange, but it was really nice. The family got to be there in the last weeks, and we could spend time together and with him, and his passing was just very peaceful. We all valued that experience a lot, as sad as it was that it had to happen. I hope you and your family are hanging in there,

I'm sure he is leaving this world with a full heart as he must be exceptionally proud of his sucessful and very compassionate daughter.  I, as well as all of us I'm sure, have you in our thoughts.  Let us know if we can help.

Carolan-big bear hug coming your way.  How fortunate are we nowadays to have hospice to help in situations like this.  I too had experience with them 20 yrs ago. My mother was 52 when she was diagnosed with brain cancer. After surgeries, chemo, and radiation it was time for hospice.  Such lovely people. They came into our home, helped with the hospital bed set-up-and kept me from losing my mind.  Mom was 54 when she passed, and having had hospice there to help us every step of the way was a comfort for Mom, as well as the rest of us. Having hospice allowed me to sit at Mom's bedside as she passed, holding her hand.  Bless those angel hospice nurses. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers Carolan.
