hip labral tear
Up to The Cutting Edge (Surgery)
Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone has had a labral tear in you hip, and if you had surgery for it. I finally got a dx as to why my hip is hurting so bad, and scheduled for arthroscopic surgery for it. I'm pretty nervous though, not sure what to expect. All I know is I can't live like this!
Thanks!
Nichole
Wow! I totally had that exact thing, in my pre-creaky days (oh, the days). I've never met anyone else who's had it!
I got mine as a sports injury, and it took years to get a doc who recognized it. I was really really uncomfortable for a long time until I got it fixed. Unfortunately, I had them in both hips, and in between the two surgerys I got RA, so never got the second one done. But, since I no longer do that sport (thanks, arthritis) and am on anti inflammatories, it has been not such a big deal since then, although it still hurts if I sit for too long.
Anyways. it was not bad. I have three teeny scars on the side of my leg. I had to cover them up for a few days and then they were fine. I don't think the surgery took all that long, but it was a few hours. I could have gone home except there were delays getting me started and we didn't even finish until midnight or something, so they let me sleep there. I think that might actually have been the worst part! Afterwards, I lay around for a few days, then was on crutches. Unfortunately, I was not a compliant patient and since I didn't cooperate on using the crutches (since I basically felt fine) I over did it and had to use a cane for a while. If you cooperate you probably won't have to. There was a funny thing, which has by now completely gone away- they sort of shaved off the bottom of the labrum, which meant that my hip had a bigger range of motion than it did before, so it sort of felt a little wobbly or like it would accidentally go too far. Once the muscles around the joint got built up again and got used to it, it totally went away.
It'll be ok! when is the surgery?
Thank you Kate! That is very encouraging to hear! Surgery is November 5th. I'm nervous but very ready to get it fixed! I can't imagine waiting much longer for a dx...I am so sick of it already and its only been 6 weeks. I can't believe how it hurts! Like I told the doc-even with my JRA for 20+ years and a total hip replacement and multiple broken feet, I have never had anything hurt like this! Nothing makes it stop
Anyways, thanks again!
