Finger surgery Monday
Up to The Cutting Edge (Surgery)
Hey gang,
I'm having that bone spur taken off my finger tomorrow! I'm looking forward to (eventually) getting rid of this blasted splint! Good thoughts sent my way would be much appreciated.
Carolan
Hope all goes well

hi! pecking w/ 1 hand but otherwise doing ok! have 2 keep other hand elevated. i can take the dressing off in 3 days. and start working on bending it. no stitches, apparently they used a sort of glue. pain isn't as bad as i anticipated but still need percoset. i think i'll be able to get off that in a few days, though.
Carolan,
I am sorry I missed this posting before asking where you have been! I am glad everything went well and as the others will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
I am starting to think we are all dropping like flies with all the surgeries going on. Guess it is just part of the drill.
You take care and let us know if there is anything we can do for you!
Wish you well.
Hi gang, today i get to take the dressing off and look at the "damage"! I took off the ace bandage but haven't gotten around to removing the gauze. Baby steps.
Last night I slept through without waking up to take a dose of percocet, which is a good thing. My whole hand is puffy but since i took off the ace bandage it;s going down and i can type with some of the fingers of that hand.
Tessa, I know what you mean about the surgeries...I went over 30 years without a surgery but once i had the first one in '97 it seems like i'm having one at least every other year! Ugh.
OK, off with the gauze...
hey Carolan, just wanted to say I'm so glad it went well and hang in there!
don't screw the whole thing up by giving someone the finger before you're fully healed
[[giving someone the finger]] Bwah! Whatever it takes in the name of physical therapy...
Turns out I do have four stitches that'll have to come out in about a week. The incision is about an inch and a half long and runs along the side of my finger. I wash the area with an antiseptic solution once daily and apply a knuckle bandaid. I'm allowed to start bending it a little but I'm not to force it until the stitches come out. It's a little swollen but not too bad. The biggest bruise I have is in my upper arm where they put the nerve block!
I had a sedative but I remember watching some of the surgery on a tv monitor, and being disappointed that I slept through most of it. I remember saying "Hey, why didn't you wake me up?" LOL The weirdest sensation was how floppy my arm was until the nerve block wore off. I had to keep it in a sling to avoid accidentally whacking myself in the nose.
I went to my husband's company Christmas party last night but we left early because I got tired pretty quickly. I guess it's the aftereffects of the anesthesia. Plus after having to shake hands with 40 people I didn't know my finger was sore! I guess I could have used the left hand...
