Xango juice
Up to Non-Traditional Treatments
Anyone heard of or tried this? Have a friend that thinks it would really help arthritis but its expensive. But on the other hand, if it works....
Never heard of it, I ask the same as Kate what is it suppose to do for RA or other auto-immune disorders?
What's in it etc?
The makers have a web site, xango.com. They don't make any specific health claims on their web site, probably because of the informatin in the following webmd.com article:
http://www.webmd.com/news/20061004/fda-warns-xango-juice-maker
It's a fad. Probably won't hurt you, probably tastes good, probably a good mixer with rum.
From http://www.tritonhealth.com/xango-juice.php
Ingredients, listed in order of quantity in the product: Mangosteen juice from the whole fruit (not related to the mango, btw), apple juice, pear juice, grape juice, pear puree, blueberry juice, raspberry juice, strawberry juice, cranberry juice, citric acid, natural flavor, pectin, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate.
At least there's no added sugar.
Again, it probably tastes good but general nutrition wisdom says that if you want the full health benefits of a fruit, eat the fruit. Juice is empty calories in comparison.
Supposed to reduce inflammation...they call it a natural COX-2 inhibitor that can be used in place of vioxx or celebrex. That Vioxx thing kinda caught my attention...I loved Vioxx
Claims some docs are using in rather then prednisone. Normally I'd laugh at this sort of thing but I really trust my friend and to be honest am at the end of the road...I've been thru all the meds available and the only thing helping is prednisone, and thats certainly not doing great things for the rest of my body! Amazing what desperation will make us consider! LOL. But I may just try it....
I think what makes me nervous about this type of thing is that there are a lot of really powerful "natural" substances (you know, the way that opium and cyanide are "all natural")... some things, like St Johns Wort, are sold as a natural remedy but what it really does is work on the exact same mechanisms as normal antidepressants. The only difference is, your doctor doesn't monitor it and neither does the FDA. If this does cox-2 type things, we already know interfering with that system can cause some problems,so it seems risky to take it if it works on those mechanisms but no one is going to be able to even guarantee something as basic as what dose is in each bottle!
of course, if it mixes well with rum, we could always add it to out very scientific rumrunners experiment!
Hey, it's worth a try, Nichole! Maybe your local health food store has it. Or maybe it's available in a supplement...I take liguid cranberry juice gel caps to prevent UTIs and it works pretty well. And I just got something similiar in pomegranate juice that's supposed to be good to lower cholesterol. (Hubby's is a little elevated.)
I just did a search on Vitaminshoppe.com and they have it in various forms, for example:
http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/search/en/query.jsp?q=mangosteen&intsource2=main
Maybe a tad cheaper, too!

Your friend is absolutely right! Xango is an amazing juice! The amazing thing about this product is that it has super anti-oxidents called "xanthones". You can look up the research on this at Pubmed.net. Type in mangosteen, or xanthones, those are the key words. The main ingredient in the fruit is anti-inflammitory properties. There are over 44 xanthones alone in this one fruit, there are a total of 200 known xanthones at this time. Xango has a patent on the way they process their juice. It is the whole fruit puree. Not just the juice but the outside rind, inside rind and white flesh on the inside. It is not just an extract. It is the whole fruit. I am currently taking this product and it has helped me with not being so tired and my knees. I dont have RA but my knees have taken a beating being in gymnastics as a teenager. Check this product out. It is not a farce or a fad. Xango changes lives truely. You have a good friend. And why not try it, give it 90 days what could it hurt? And about the price It is not expensive at all. Think about the traditional treatment a lot of you have spent money on right. I am currently givein this to my mom for her hands and will post more on her results soon. Good luck to all of you out there.
Tessa here is a link for you http://mangosteenjuicetestimonials.wordpress.com/category/autoimmune-rheumatoid-arthritis/
Mangosteen is in yogurt now too! We bought a pear/mangosteen yogurt by accident and there was a little...I'm not going to eat it, you eat it....nah, why don't you eat it...
I ate it. It was fine. My arthritis is not cured
I worry too much about how this would interact with all the meds I'm taking. Some of that homeopathic medicine can reduce the efficacy of birth control pills and I'm sure it could interact with other meds as well.

I truely understand you concern regarding interacting with what you are already taking. The juice is not suppose to interact with any other medications. It is like drinking grape juice which has anti-oxidents in it too. You may want to try looking on Pubmed.net they are doing a lot of research on the mangosteen and the xanthones (super anti-oxidents) that attach free radicals that cause inflammation. There is a website by Dr. J. Templeman and as you read and scroll down it gives a list of RX meds that he is using the juice to replace for this patients. http://mangosteentree.ca/medical/templeman.html . Hope this helps. And just like anything else one step at a time. Research takes time. Hope this can in the future help you!
And...I would love to try some of the yougert! Mangosteen is said to be one of the best tasting fruits in the world! Have a great day!!
Thanks for the link.
Kate, One never knows remember I work for IBM but do not own an IBM machine I buy HP/Apple and now the netbook Asus...
that is true, Tessa, its definitely possible that she just really likes it. I think I was just suspicious because this is the only thread she's ever posted on, and the tone of the post kind of sounds like what would happen if someone had a search alert for something and then came around to websites where people mentioned it trying to convince them to buy it. But, I am also in a very cynical mood- I know that you can never know what will inspire a long time lurker to finally post something, maybe mangosteen was it! if so, then hopefully maia sticks around, and I'm really sorry for jumping to conclusions. if not, then we have a spammer in our midst, I guess we'll find out!

Firstly I dont have any search alerts. Secondly I am not trying to get any one to buy anything. I am truely just trying to help. My mom has it in her hands and she is taking the juice right now. And I have not been lurking either. And I am not a spammer. Actually I heard of the site on the Real house wifes of ny. Jills teenage daughter has RA and she mentioned the foundation. I was wondering if there was actually a real site to go with it and there is! Not a lot of people know about natural remedies and may be afraid to try them because all we are taught is drugs. I just know if there was another way to take back control of my life from a disease I would want to know about it, just so that i would at least have another option. I may not take now but at least it is there, and there is hope. Thats all! (Xango could help you with your moods too! Just kidding!) Life is too short to be cynical.
Ok, then I really am very sorry. Every once in a while someone shows up here trying to take advantage of us and sell things, and since you were new and all of your posts were so focused on heavily promoting this one product, I wasn't sure what you were doing. Since this is such a nice, and non-commercially focused community, and that is something about it that is important to me, I was suspicious. I do sincerely apologize for jumping to conclusions though, and if you have really just been researching it for your Mom then it is great that you posted all of this information for us.
For what its worth, I didn't mean lurker in a bad way. It means a person who reads message boards and doesn't post, which people do all the time and I did on here myself until I was comfortable posting something. It isn't a bad thing, what I meant by that was that you never know which post will inspire someone who has been reading along to pop up and say something. And, clearly in this case it was right, as this is the thread that you felt interested in enough to post on.
I'm glad the show lead you to find us and I hope that you find other things on here that can help out your Mom.
I decided to try the Xango juice; my curiosity (and hopes) were way too high I had to try, though I was very skeptical. I've been taking it a month now and it has helped!! I have way more energy, my moods are much more stable, and it really has helped with pain and being able to cut Prednisone...yay! Usually I can feel every milligram of pred I drop but I haven't felt it at all-Im really shocked! Anyways...so, we'll see. You're not supposed to feel full benefits for 3 months, so I'm very curious to see what the next 2 months bring!
Nichole
Great news, Nichole! I'm so glad it has helped! [[hug]]
Maia, I hope you'll forgive those of us who are skeptical.
I may try it, may not, but the information is appreciated.
Truely no hard feelings! I understand. I am so glad to hear that is has helped Nichole awesome! Hope you keep getting better!
Hmm, on the other hand, I had a bad reaction to Vioxx, so maybe I for one should stay away from this product... thoughts?
Hey Carolan- you might want to be careful if vioxx didn't work out, like I said in my post from Jan 24 up above, a lot these natural substances work on the exact same mechanisms as the prescription drugs do. This means that there isn't much of a benefit of getting natural vs manufactured since they do the same thing to your body, but you do take a big risk with the 'natural' version because there is no one to monitor the ingredients (no FDA supervision), no one to tell you if they interact with your other meds such as other anti-inflammatories (no pharmacist), and no one to monitor the effects to see if you should discontinue them or not (no doctor). I definitely take fish oil and milk thistle, but these things that claim to do the exact same thing as a prescription med I find to be a little disconcerting- if what they do is just the same as a substance that other groups of doctors have decided you need a prescription for (and thus needs to be monitored by someone other than yourself), it begins to seem a bit risky, in my opinion.
How many of you do this? Keep old medicines that just worked "ok" in case you run out of your good meds. and need a back-up? LOL. Well I do that, and for me Celebrex and Mobic just worked o.k., no big relief or anything, but mostly I stopped them b/c they really hurt my stomach. (I never got to try Vioxx, I was diagnosed right around the time they were pulling it from the shelves.) In any case, I was thinking about taking an Arthrotec the other day b/c that was the most useful of the NSAIDS I tried. So I looked up the side effects on askapatient.com b/c I couldn't remember if there were any. A few people mentioned that they miscarried while taking the drug!!! So then I looked on the bottle, and sure enough Arhtrotec AND Celebrex had huge warnings about possible miscarriage. I don't know how I ever missed that before! I think it was b/c as you guys know, I went through that stage when I didn't think it was ever a possibility again. Now we are beginning to plan for it, but we haven't begun the process of stopping the meds. yet. Still, it was scarey to me that I may have taken those when we did decide to start trying! So now I'm wondering if Xango Juice would be dangerous to pregnancy too.
Yes I definitely save old meds-especially anti-nausea and pain pills. Glad I'm not the only one who does that
The Xango juice is supposed to be safe for infants as well as pets, so I'd THINK it would be safe with pregnancy but probably better check it out! I didn't have any reason to check that out at this point
