So here's the scoop...
Up to I'm Feeling Vulnerable
I went to see the orthopedic surgeon today and after another set of xrays (he wanted to see both hips, not just the left), the news isn't horrible but it's not great, either.
The cup in the left side is wearing out faster than it should. Why? Well, apparently the manufacturer came out with a "new improved" polymer around that time (1997) that later proved to be a step BACKWARD in wearability. Nice.
The doc says he can replace the cup any time I'm ready, but it's not urgent. I still have a few years before it wears completely through. [rolling eyes] The better news is that the surgery is less traumatic than having the total package replaced, and after that I should be good to go for a long time to come. I'll also be ambulatory immediately after surgery, so none of this non-weight-bearing-for-12-weeks nonsense.
Better news - the right hip is still perfect!
Now another downer - in the last couple days my right elbow is crunching ominously. [sound of head banging on desk. rinse. repeat.]
Carolan,
Well congrats on the Good news and sorry about the not so great news. Though if it isn't as drastic that is a good thing and a blessing in disguise I guess.
keep us posted on the rest...
(Sorry, My typing, english and spelling rot I'm on Vicodine).
Gosh Carolan, You must set off all the metal detectors everywhere you go. I just have my wrist done, and that causes enough issues.
Pretty much! In fact, if I go through a metal detector and I DON'T set it off, it's probably not working right!
You know, if you ever need another job, you could get hired by the FAA as a secret tester of airport security screening techniques!
I have about 10 Vicodine left who ever makes it here first has first shot at left overs. This is the first time i have ever had vicodine...you all should have seen me when they gave me the morphine in the hospital...i was wasted..... I am not used ot taking pain meds even with the RA... Celebrex and Cymbalta are usuallyy the only thing's i take for pain type management even though they are really not pain meds per se.
Carolan, You should consider the FAA thing it sounds like a good gig.....
