new years resolution

Posted by kate at January 07. 2009

Ok, I am going to officially post this here, so maybe I will be accountable ;).

I am going to do SOME kind of exercise (knowing that depending on how I feel it might even be something small like spending 10-15 minutes stretching) four times a week. And I'm going to do it in the morning, so there is no excuse at the end of the day. I want my body to last longer, so I'm going to try to keep it healthy.

I already started- yesterday I did some yoga, and then today I did some abs stuff (because it doesn't require jumping on or holding myself up on any joints :). I feel good!

Anyone else have resolutions (or, want to join me?)

Kate,

I'll join you!! Especially since I have been following you through the board this evening!!!  Do you feel someone is following you!!!  Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean people aren't watching you!! (ha ha ha).

Since my Ortho won't let me go to the gym YET! I will make a deal I will do 10 to 15 mins of Yoga on the Wii 4 times a week and we can check in here with each other..I will start tomorrow morning!

I won't be able to do all the moves or the ones that require both arms!!

I'm IN

Tess  - THe one armed bandit!!!

I've always wanted my very own stalker! [kidding]

I've ridden my exercise bike twice this week! I have the recumbent type so it's easy on my hip.

haha, now I'm stalking you!! and I have two arms so I can do it twice as fast! ;)

I'm glad you guys are in... today I just did some stretching- I'm trying not to pull my usual stunt of overdoing it and throwing myself into a giant flare!

Good morning! I did 45 minutes on the bike yesterday. I go hot and cold with my bike - I'm either on it every day or I ignore it for months on end!  When I start up, I start with 15 or 20 minutes for a few days, then increase to 30, etc.  I like to put it in front of the TV because otherwise I get bored. I can't read a book while cycling, because then I get engrossed in the book and stop pedalling. LOL

Well Ladies, per the doctor I am down 4 lbs since my last visit and that was with the extra weight from the cast and ace bandages!!

Though my sugar levels are up, so are my TSH so they have increased my Levoxal and are running the HA1C test for the sugar.

I have broken th 160LB mark and am down to 155 woohoo!!

Hi! I'm new to the board and am glad I decided to look around.  I too am in.  Just like you Kate, if I write it down, I'm accountable.  I'm tired of feeling like a painful blob.   I coach at our local HS and our football coach is also a personal trainer.  He started me on a conditioning program 2 weeks ago and is very aware of my limitations and has created a no impact program for me.  For ab work, I would highly recommend a balance ball.

Good luck to all!

Hi Angela, welcome!  I actually used to have a balance ball but it somehow got lost in our last move. I'll have to get another one. *sigh*

Tessa, WTG!!!!  I hope I have similar good news at my next weigh-in...

welcome, Angela!

I fell off the wagon a bit last week, had houseguests and some other things going on (I know, I know, no excuse). But this morning I went swimming, I feel so good I don't know why I don't do this all the time! now I will!

OOOhhh OOhh!!  I want in!  This is actually what I was hoping to find when I got on the boards today!  My recent dosings of prednisone made the scales tip up :(

I try to remind myself that every new 5 pounds puts 20 lbs of pressure on my knees.  How's that for an exercise boost?

I will start today by doing what I can!  Thanks ladies!

have a wedding tonight but have been so good today and yesterday, so even if i eat a little (if the girdle will allow:) it shdnt make much of a difference....

had a really gd workout yesterday in gym as well, so all in all.... so far so good....

and yeah Kate, i would love to go for a bikeride... however i dont think the hat, scarf, gloves, thick coat and boots wd do well on a bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angela, Welcome to the creaky board, best place to find other friends with RA!!!

Carolan and Kate, I am down another 2 lbs, this time because they took the cast and bandages off yesterday. If you haven't seen my other post where I was whining and really in a bad mood.

My son takes me to PT every other day and it is at the gym so now when he comes to get me after PT we go sit on the bikes and pedal for 30 mins.  Not much but I am still limited on what I can do.  Gotta protect the arm of course.

The Wii Fit is still my savior so we're good!!

I found the key now is to eat small meals...i only eat the size of my fist (sometimes that is larger depends on how swollen my hands are that day HA HA HA).

Britt and Rachel welcome to the new years resolution that Kate started!!!   She is a good influence..shhh don't tell her I said that because I am her personal Stalker!!!

Tess the 1/2 one arm bandit, stalking maniac!!

OK....time to check in...I have been working out regularly and do feel energized. My trainer is helping strengthen my muscles to make it easier on the joints.  Unfortunately, our weight room was closed for a week and I really felt the time off.

Also, wii fit is also a lot of fun as there is a lot of low impact and balance.

How is everyone doing??

Re: new years resolution

Posted by TessaD at February 25. 2009

Hey Angela, I have lost 5 lbs since the new year!!  WOOHOO....

I am walking about 30 mins every other day.  Doing some balance games on Wii with the grandson but nto much more.

Ortho wasn't happy that I have been on the treadmill, but oh well he's young he will adjust.

Let's see if I can continue the regiment when I go back to work on March 9th.

How's everyone else making out....

Re: new years resolution

Posted by kate at February 26. 2009

hi! I haven't been around here much because I've been suuuuuuuper busy at work (and interviewing possibly for a new job!), plus I'm having a flare the likes of which I haven't had in quite a while (maybe because of the stress of possibly looking for a job? who knows). I'm exhausted, in pain, no appetite... the works!

So, I haven't been very good about my own resolution lately (plus I just ate a cupcake). I'm trying to get back into it but my joints aren't thrilled with me, so I'm giving them a bit of a break! You guys are doing awesome though! It makes me get motivated again... even if I can't work out right now I can at least avoid the cupcakes, so thats what I'm goind to focus on in the short term.

kate

ps. glad to hear my stalked has one and a half arms now! ;)

Re: new years resolution

OK...my bad fell off the wagon a bit BUT...Am committed to restarting the plan. Tomorrow I will walk for at least 30 minutes. Since I wrote it down, I can't back off.

Re: new years resolution

Posted by TessaD at April 04. 2009

Angela, Good for you. I feel off also for awhile, though since I go to PT at the same place as my GYM i have been a good girl and at the minimum been walking for 30 mins 2 to 3 times a week. Except this week because I had a business trip.

I haven't lost any more weight and have decreased my intake and have changed to a high fiber, low chol, low fat/non fat. Diet...NO SUGARS.  So confused on why I am not losing weight or inches.

I can only make it 1 mile on the treadmill before my ankles, knees and hips decide NO MORE!!!  Not sure how I will do the AF Walk in May this way.
