A good caregiver is better than any doctor. Having someone who cares about you to the core, and wants nothing more than for you to feel better, goes far beyond what any doctor comes to work to do. That’s not to say that doctors aren’t good caregivers, and many (most?) have a great bedside manner, caring deeply about their patients and working really hard to make them better. But it’s in the darkest hours of pain, or in the latest hours of a sleepless night, that having a caregiver – someone who puts the word ‘care’ in caregiver – can make all the difference.
It’s easy to want to go at this alone. Arthritis can feel very isolating and we quickly move to draw the blinds and close out the world. But letting someone in may very well be the best thing you can do for yourself. If you haven’t already.
