Wearing a mask and sweating to sleep in the name of wedded bliss, Seth ruminates on a good night’s rest.
Wouldn't it be nice if there were a little pill that you could take before you go to sleep, that guaranteed a good night of rest?
Oh, wait, there are probably a dozen of these. But for me, none of them work. Well, that's not entirely true, but waking up feeling groggier than if I hadn't slept in the first place is not necessarily a good solution (and it's an expensive one at that!).
I have been running on fumes these days – powered by adrenaline, per usual – and taking the time to focus on improving my "sleep ecosystem". Which is basically a fancy way of saying "making sure the bedroom is set up correctly". One thing we need, for sure, are better blinds to black out the room, but in the meantime, those funny looking sleep masks will do. And a cooler bedroom – that is to say one that isn't 105 degrees – is in my future, thanks to the upcoming seasonal change. Our "thermal disagreements" are turning into a trend each summer, but now I am at least prepared to sweat myself to sleep every night because domestic bliss (read: a happy wife) is honestly way more important than my comfort.
There is just nothing on this earth more valuable to me than a good night of sleep, and when I do get one (occasionally), I feel like a whole different person. But for now, life is what happens when I don't get enough sleep. It's not as bad as it sounds, but it's definitely high on my wish list…
