Online support is great, but sometimes we need a personal touch

Our last peer mentoring call was great fun. The call was energetic as people shared stories and questions and great advice.
…research literature tells us that one of the most healing things is to be connected with someone who understands your suffering, and can help you bear it. Usually that person has gone through a similar crisis and has come out in a new place.
The comment that stayed with me the most came the next day in an email when one of the participants wrote how good the evening as for her. She said she loves the cyber world of connecting, but it felt wonderful to have a real conversation with people who had the same concerns – to talk and get responses in a live conversation.
That’s the reason we launched these peer mentoring calls – so folks could talk out loud and get answers and support in the moment. The research literature tells us that one of the most healing things is to be connected with someone who understands your suffering, and can help you bear it. Usually that person has gone through a similar crisis and has come out in a new place.
Our next peer mentoring call with Michelle is on July 19th at 7:30 PM EST.
We hope that you will sign up to hear Michelle’s story and get her mentoring about exercise and attitude. Michelle has RA and is a wellness coach. She has lots of wisdom and experience to offer.
If you can’t make the call, I hope you find a way to reach out in your own community. We at CreakyJoints love the internet community. If you haven’t joined our message boards yet, or followed us on Twitter, that’s a place to start to expand your network. Post a question, or respond to someone asking for help.
We also know that the more places you have for contact, the better. So move beyond us – and beyond your computer.
The next place is to look for something close to home – at your community center or doctor’s office or maybe at the local health food store! Find a group where you can talk out loud and listen to other people. We need each other – and someone out there needs what you have to offer! Make a point of showing up – and let me know how it goes.
